BRADENTON, Fla. — Coastal Orthopedics, a full-service provider of comprehensive orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, spine care, pain management, diagnostic imaging and physical therapy service, recently invested in two new surgical robots in an effort to expand its current robotic surgery offerings for patients. CORI by Smith+Nephew and VELYS™ by DePuy Synthes, both robotic-assisted solutions, will join Stryker’s Mako that Coastal Orthopedics currently uses for assisted total and partial knee replacement procedures at its outpatient surgery center.
CORI by Smith+Nephew incorporates innovative features such as image-free smart mapping, enabling the creation of 3D models of the joint during surgery without relying on CT/MRI scans. It also provides real-time planning capabilities for personalized surgery, allowing surgeons to tailor the procedure to each patient’s unique anatomy. The system includes handheld precision milling tools for precise bone resections and intra-operative gap balancing to ensure optimal alignment and stability of the joint.
VELYS™ by DePuy Synthes is designed to enhance surgical procedures and improve patient outcomes, offering valuable insights, adaptable execution and verified performance. The advanced technology utilized in the solution aims to increase efficiency in the operating room while optimizing the overall outcome for patients.
“At Coastal Orthopedics, our primary goal is to provide the highest quality of orthopedic care to the community,” said Dr. John Harkess. “We are proud to now offer three robotic-assisted solutions so that patients can avoid the traditional hospital setting with this outpatient offering.”
For patients, robotic-arm assisted surgery provides a new level of precision that can take surgical outcomes to an even higher level, allowing them to take advantage of the latest innovations in health care right here in the community, without the added expenses of traveling to a teaching center or university.
With advancements in technology continuing to revolutionize the field of orthopedic surgery, the team at Coastal Orthopedics is staying current with cutting-edge technology that will help achieve the best possible outcomes for their patients.
“Robotic-assisted procedures are designed to provide optimal results for patients,” said Dr. David Cashen. “We are confident that robotics will continue to play a crucial role in orthopedic surgery, and our team is committed to offering our patients the most recent advancements in technology to improve their quality of life.”
Patients at Coastal Orthopedics will work with their physician to determine the most appropriate approach and solution to be used based on individual circumstances and desired outcomes. All three surgical robots are now in use Coastal’s outpatient surgery center located in East Manatee County at 8000 SR-64 in Bradenton, Fla.
